Where to turn when one needs a winning score to match a summer blockbuster? Try matching Grammy award winning composer Mark Mancina ("Speed," "Con Air," "Twister" and the 1998 remake of "Return To Paradise") and multiple Grammy winner, singer-songwriter Phil Collins for the job. For good measure, add to the CD an exclusive version of one of the more upbeat numbers (the Billy Joel influenced "Trashin' The Camp") which features the platinum vocal group 'N Sync, and you pretty much can't miss.
Collins' tunes are melodically lush and delivered with his trademark yearning tenor. Due to his other profession (drumming), one can always count on his songs to have compelling rhythmic drive as well. Marcina's score moves effortlessly through cinematic changes in rich, real (not overly synthesized) orchestrations, which also feature a good deal of percussion. His skillful hand turns the moods of the set pieces from tender to exciting, to heroic and back again.
TARZAN won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Soundtrack Album.
