One of the more readily available and cheap blaxploitation albums, this should not be overlooked. Barry White, Love Unlimited and the Love Unlimited Orchestra really turn up the funk on a strong album featuring many short, stripped-down funk instrumentals and several larger-scale vocal numbers. Well worth the cheap asking price.

This is a production rife with odd pairings: English actor Daniel Day-Lewis joining up with the Mohawks; James Fenimore Cooper adapted by Michael Mann; disparate composers Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman teaming up. This last pairing seems a suspicious attempt to endow the score of this modern film adaptation of a junior high school literary evergreen with both a golden age of Hollywood dramatic bent (Jones) and a '90s-slick guitar-muzak veneer (Edelman). Frédéric Chopin - Wojciech Kilar: The Pianist: Music from the Motion Picture (2002)

Roman Polanski lleva a la pantalla el sobrecogedor relato de supervivencia del famoso compositor y pianista polaco Wladyslaw Szpilman al interior del ghetto de Varsovia controlado por los nazis, una narración  impregnada de profundas emociones del propio director, que escapó del ghetto de Cracovia cuando era apenas un niño de 7 años. El valor de Szpilman como un héroe musical para los oprimidos judíos polacos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial fue sólo superado por el de Chopin, el compositor que ocupaba el centro de su repertorio y que tan bien retrató el alma de la nación sufriente. Así, la película gira con fuerza alrededor de la música de Chopin, con versiones a cargo del pianista polaco actual Janusz Olejniczak, que rinde homenaje apasionado a sus dos antecesores musicales y nacionales. Hay dos aportes especiales:  primero, Wojciech Kilar,  colaborador habitual de Polanski (La novena puerta, La Muerte y la Doncella), escribe la emocionante música que acompaña el traslado al ghetto, el 31 de octubre de 1940. La colección termina, finalmente, con una rara grabación remasterizada de la Mazurca Op.. 17, N º 4 por el propio Szpilman, registrada en Varsovia en 1948.

La banda sonora fue nominada al BAFTA Award for Best Film Music, y ganó el premio César el año 2002.

Forrest Gump (1994) is one of the most successful films ever made, winning Tom Hanks his second successive Best Actor Oscar (he won the previous year for Philadelphia) as well as claiming the Best Picture Oscar and many other awards and nominations, including several for music. A unique fable of American life from the 1950s to the 80s, the film blends comedy, drama, war, romance and groundbreaking special effects into a social and political portrait of the passing years, all seen through the eyes of the intellectually challenged but immensely likeable Forrest Gump. The soundtrack is a double album featuring 31 classic pop tunes plus a suite from Alan Silvestri's rich orchestral music, represented more completely on the companion score album. Opening with Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog", this is a fine anthology of three decades of American music, taking in everything from Joan Baez's "Blowin' In The Wind" to Aretha Franklin's "Respect", The Mammas and The Papas' "California Dreamin'" and Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson". Here also is Scott McKenzie with "San Francisco", plus Jefferson Airplane, the Supremes, Lynyrd Skynrd and many more.
